We stopped in Lindau for lunch. It was a perfect introduction to Bavaria. The architecture and ornamentation of many of the buildings were quintessential Bavarian. All you needed was a mug of beer and a pretzel (both of which were easily obtained)
Next on to Munich, the capital of Bavaria, with its famous new town hall and glockenspiel. The neo-gothic architecture is on display for all to see with the 100 meter long facade facing the Marinplatz. You can see some of the best parts in the pictures below.
But of course how could we go to Munich and not go to the Hofbrauhaus. Not only is it a famous beer hall but it was a frequent gathering place for Hitler and where many Nazi Party events were held. Beer halls were not only a place to eat and drink but also a place to gather and discuss politics in the first half of the 20th century and therefore were vital to the politics of the day.
Don't let me give you the wrong impression though, the food is great the beers are large and tasty and the atmosphere itself is intoxicating. A must see no mater how much or how little you drink!

We also had some time to ourselves where we were able to stroll through the town and shop in the market or go to museums. The market was large and well stocked with anything that you could imagine.
The Nymphenburg Palace was a prime example of the former monarchy's opulence. It was a gorgeous yet over the top palace that really must be seen to understand how large it was.
